BMG Rights Management, formerly known as Bertelsmann Music Group, is a global music conglomerate with a rich history in the industry. Originally formed in 1985 as a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and RCA, BMG has since evolved into a powerhouse of music production and distribution.

In 1986, Bertelsmann acquired full ownership of RCA and Arista Records through the purchase of their joint venture's stock from General Electric. The following year, these labels were merged under the umbrella of Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), solidifying its position as a major player in the music world.

In 2004, BMG joined forces with Sony Music to create Sony BMG Music Entertainment. However, in 2008, Bertelsmann sold its stake in the company, leading to the formation of BMG Rights Management. Today, BMG continues to thrive as a leading record label and distributor worldwide.

Two south London fellows called [a=Alan Lancaster] (bass) and [a=Francis Rossi] (guitar - known as [a5373623] during the band's early years) founded the band in 1962. First name The Paladins soon changed to [a=The Spectres (2)] (another previously-documented early name, The Scorpions, is disputed). 
In 1966, the band changed their name to "The Traffic", shortly thereafter to [a=The Traffic Jam (2)]. The lineup consisted of Lancaster, Rossi, [a=John Coghlan] (drums) and [a=Roy Lynes] (keyboard).
A year later, the band changed name once again to "The Status Quo". [a=Rick Parfitt] (guitar) joined the band. Their first hit record, "Pictures of Matchstick Men", was released. "The" was omitted from the name of the band in 1969, known thereafter as just "Status Quo"

Dog of Two Head was the first step for Status Quo in becoming the band and the sound they are known for. The music contains less of their psychedelic music and more of their wall of sound rock. The content takes on a heavy blues feel with plenty twelve bar rocking numbers. The single Mean Girl, was to become a UK #20 hit some time later, in April 1973. The innovative and inventive sound on this album makes it one of the best studio albums they have ever recorded.
