British synth pop / art rock band founded in 1981 in London and disbanded in 1991. They had a string of international hit singles including "It's My Life", "Such a Shame", "Life's What You Make It", "Dum Dum Girl" and "Talk Talk".
Talk Talk moved away from synth-pop to a more experimental form with the album The Colour of Spring in 1986, and their critical reputation increased. Their final two albums, Spirit of Eden (1988) and Laughing Stock (1991), are highly acclaimed and remain influential to experimental alternative rock genres.
With Simon Brenner out, Tim Friese-Greene was recruited to assist with the recording of their second album It's My Life (1984) and he soon became the band's producer and de facto fourth member. He played keyboards and became Hollis' frequent songwriting partner, co-writing all the songs on The Colour of Spring (1986), Spirit of Eden (1988) and Laughing Stock (1991). Although a major contributor to the band's studio output, Friese-Greene did not regularly play with the touring band, and was absent from the band's publicity material.

Parlophone is an anglicization of the German [l=Parlophon] label, registered as a trademark in 1902 by Max Straus and Heinrich Zuntz of [b]Salon Kinematograph Co. GmbH[/b], later merged into [l=Carl Lindström A.-G.]. The first Parlophon records are pressed in 1910. 

By 1923, Parlophone proper appears in London administered by English Lindström branch known as [l311921],  Parlophon records were pressed in London and sold locally. By 1926 extended operations extended to press for export in Australia (#cat A) until the australian factory [l=Parlophone Co. Ltd.] was created somewhere the next year. These companies were subsequently taken over by [l97841] in 1927, following its acquisition of [l275192] in 1926, thus becoming a constituent part of [l293204] (EMI) when that company merged with [l253617] in 1931.

The label largely operated as a Jazz and Novelty label until manager, [a=George Martin], signed the [a=The Beatles] in 1962. As a result of its subsequent success and profile, the label was earmarked for phasing out in 1973 in favour of [l=EMI] (the label), however the parlophone imprint continued to be used by registered trademark owner [l=EMI Records Ltd.] and affiliated companies.

In September 2012 following the acquisition of [l1330982]'s US and Asian interests by [l=Universal Music Group], Parlophone and the former EMI Records Ltd. were merged as the [l806790] (PLG Holdco Ltd.) and spun off to be sold. 

They were sold to [l=Warner Music Group] in March 2013.
The Parlophone label is now owned by [l=Parlophone Records Ltd.], the re-named EMI Records Ltd., itself a subsidiary of [l=Warner Music International].

The Beatles were not part of the Parlophone Label Group and their catalogue was acquired by [l=Universal].

If you are new to Talk Talk you get to hear how they went from an early eighties synth pop band to something altogether more musically exciting. The transformation from “The Party’s Over” to “The Colour of Spring” is pretty incredible. Don’t me wrong, the early synth stuff is good and the song writing on show, but by their third album you get to hear what the band wanted to sound like as opposed to what the record company wanted them to sound like. And of course the two follow up albums, “Spirit of Eden” and “Laughing Stock” demonstrate the band pushing their musical boundaries even further, to stunning effect. They went to from synth pop to something very much more organic. The last album “The Colour of Spring” is clearly the strongest album here, and really showcases the bands more experimental side, the music is thoughtful and emotional, with a more experimental jazz feel.
