The Damned is an English punk band formed in 1976 by Dave Vanian (vocals), Brian James (guitar), Captain Sensible (bass then guitar), and Rat Scabies (drums). They were the first British punk band to release a single in 1976. In the 1980s, they transitioned to a more psychedelic and gothic sound.

It operates under the name BMG Chrysalis in the USA, UK, and Sweden, following its acquisition of Chrysalis plc. In 2012, Bertelsmann bought out Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.'s share of the company after an unsuccessful attempt to acquire EMI's recorded-music assets. While BMG Rights Management is the successor of the original Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), it has undergone significant changes and now operates independently with no connection to its former incarnation.
