The Doors were an American psychedelic rock/blues rock band formed in July, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA. The band was founded by Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. Following the death of Jim Morrison in 1971, the remaining members released two more albums but experienced limited success. In April 1973, the band ultimately disbanded. The Doors were later inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as performers in 1993.

Rhino Records, also known as Rhino, is a renowned music label that was established in 1973 by Richard Foos. Starting as a record store in Westwood California, Rhino quickly gained recognition with its first successful release "Go To Rhino Records" by Wild Man Fischer in 1975. The label's early logo featured "Rocky the Rhino" and focused on novelty, surf, local new wave bands, and reissues of out-of-print records from other labels.

Under the guidance of Bill Inglot for production, Ken Perry for mastering, and A&R team Gary Stewart and James Austin, Rhino expanded its catalog to include a wide range of reissues by the mid-1980s. The label underwent a logo redesign during this time period to simply "Rhino". In 1984, Rhino released its first CD and became known for manufacturing high-quality CDs made by Sanyo (1984-85) and various manufacturers from Japan or Switzerland thereafter.

In 1985, Rhino entered into a distribution deal with Capitol Records which lasted until 1992. This partnership allowed access to Capitol's back catalog and led to the release of reissues of old Capitol albums. Additionally, EMI and Rhino acquired the Roulette family of labels in 1989. As their deal with Capitol came to an end in 1992, Time-Warner offered an opportunity for growth. Half of the label was sold to Time-Warner

this 6-cd collection contains all of the doors' performances in their entirety recorded in 1970 at the felt forum in new york. all four shows were mixed and mastered by the band's long-time engineer, bruce botnick, who recorded a number of shows from their 1970 tour. while most of the music in the collection has never been released, a few songs appear in the 1970 release, 'absolutely live' and in 1997 on 'box set'. recorded january 17th and 18th, 1970 - just a few weeks before the release of 'morrison hotel' - these concerts find jim morrison, john densmore, robby krieger and ray manzarek locked in tight as they deliver smoking takes on soon-to-be-classics from their forthcoming album, including 'roadhouse blues,' 'peace frog,' 'ship of fools,' and 'maggie m'gill.' the shows also feature a few driving blues covers, such as bo diddley's 'who do you love,' howlin' wolf's 'back door man,' and john lee hooker's 'crawling king snake.' hoffman, and the graciousness of max yasgur's address to the crowd, heard for the first time in its entirety. for the final show of the felt forum stand, the band was joined onstage by two guests - the lovin' spoonful's john sebastian (who played harmonica on the studio version of 'roadhouse blues') and drummer dallas taylor, who'd played on crosby, stills and nash's debut. sebastian sat in for 'rock me' and was joined by taylor for 'going to ny blues' and 'maggie m'gill.' sadly, these shows represent the doors' final new york city performances with morrison, who passed away july 3, 1971.
