The Pineapple Thief is the musical vision of Bruce Soord, formerly with Vulgar Unicorn. He started TPT as an outlet for his music back in 1999.
In the spring of 2002, after the third album, Variations on a Dream, which was probably the album that gave TPT the boost they needed, reaching out to yet more people all over the world, Bruce decided to form a band to take his music to the fans. The band consisted of his close musical friends - former university band mate Jon Sykes on bass, Wayne Higgins on guitars, Matt O'Leary on keyboards and Keith Harrison on drums. Matt has since left but Steve Kitch (who co-produced and mixed the fourth album 10 Stories Down) has since joined to play keyboards. Wayne Higgins left the band in March 2008, but the group continues as a four-piece live act.
The first six albums were released on Cyclops records. In late 2007, the band were signed to Kscope Records who would later re-release their older albums.

Kscope is a London-based label specializing in the progressive genre of current music. Launched in 2008, it is a division of Snapper Music, one of the industry's most respected and influential independent labels.

With an impressive roster of talented artists, Kscope has become synonymous with innovative and boundary-pushing music. The label prides itself on discovering and nurturing unique talents who are pushing the boundaries of what is possible within their respective genres.

The Pineapple Thief reissue their breakthrough 2016 album ‘Your Wilderness’ on 180g vinyl ahead of their second headline Europe &amp; UK tour in February / March and following the new heights reached with their 2018 album ‘Dissolution’. For the first me, TPT brought in several guest performers for ‘Your Wilderness’, alongside Gavin Harrison: a four-piece choir, Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan), who arranged and recorded string sections, Darran Charles (Godsticks) contributed additional electric guitar work, and Supertramp’s John Helliwell performed some beautiful clarinet parts that bring the album to a poignant close. Featuring conceptually sympathetic Carl Glover artwork, lyrically ‘Your Wilderness’ follows the journey of a parent and child through love, estrangement and reconciliation as their lives unfold.
