Thin Lizzy is an Irish rock band that was formed in Dublin in 1969. The band had various combinations of former members after the death of their founding member and frontman. Although they disbanded in 1983, Thin Lizzy reformed and continued to perform with different line-ups. Throughout their existence, they had several guitar players including well-known names such as Gary Moore and Snowy White. Drummer Brian Downey replaced a previous drummer for a few gigs, while keyboard players Eric Bell and Darren Wharton contributed to the band's recordings. The most famous and recognized line-up of Thin Lizzy was during the period from 1974 to 1978 with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson on lead guitar. Currently, Scott Gorham and Ricky Warwick are touring under the name Thin Lizzy.

Vertigo is a multinational music label that was launched in the UK on November 7, 1969. It quickly gained popularity and was adopted by other labels within the global Phonogram group. In 1971, Vertigo made its way to the US through the Phonogram subsidiary. The label became known for releasing popular progressive rock albums in the 1970s and is currently owned by Universal Music Group.

The original logo of Vertigo, known as the "swirl" logo, was created by Marina Apollonio in 1967. This iconic logo remained in use from 1969 to 1973 and featured a plain white A-side with a complete tracklist and a black B-side for certain releases. In early 1973, the label design changed to another iconic image called the "spaceship," which was painted by Roger Dean. This design appeared in various shades of blues and greens throughout the '70s.

Around 1981, UK releases of Vertigo started using a more plain design with an orange background while other European markets continued to use the spaceship design. With its rich history and diverse range of artists, Vertigo remains an influential force in the music industry today.

'johnny the fox' is the second album in what most fans call the classic four thin lizzy albums: 'jailbreak', 'johnny the fox', 'bad reputation' and 'black rose'. released during the band's peak years (the mid - to late '70s), the album is highlighted by the twin guitar attack of scott gorham and brian robertson and lynott's own songwriting. although his romantic artistic ambitions often outreached his hard rock grasp, the songs here (taken one by one) reveal a more focused craftsman. the overall tone of the album is looser - funkier even - than on any previous thin lizzy effort. of course, the only successful single was the predictable pounding of 'don't believe a word', but there are richer and unexpected highlights scattered throughout. the gentle strains of 'borderline' reveal a melodic grace not usually associated with the band. the easy roll of 'old flame' likewise unearths heart-on-your-sleeve romanticism; and this from a guy who's better known for casual dismissals such as "if that chick don't want to know, forget her", from the band's signature song, 'the boys are back in town'.
