Big Country is a Scotland-based guitar band that was formed in the early 1980s. Managed by Ian Grant of Grant Edwards Management, the band has had various lineup changes over the years. The original members included Stuart Adamson on vocals, guitar, and synthesizer, Bruce Watson on guitar, Tony Butler on bass (until 2012), and Mark Brzezicki on drums. Other notable members include Mike Peters on vocals and guitar from 2010 to 2013, Jamie Watson (son of Bruce) on guitar since 2010, Derek Forbes on bass from 2012 to 2015, Simon Hough on vocals and acoustic guitar since 2014, Scott Whitley on bass from 2015 to 2021, and Gil Allan who joined as bassist in 2021. Despite disbanding in 2000, Big Country reunited for performances in 2007 and has been active again since then.

Please note that during the '80s UK releases were under the Mercury label although it may not be explicitly mentioned on their earliest singles' labels or sleeves. Phonogram was the publishing house for Mercury at that time.

The roots of Chrysalis stretch back to a tiny flat in West London in 1967, when former university social secretaries, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis, linked their flair for managing and booking bands to form the Ellis Wright Agency. After trying to release their bands' records via other companies, they decided to start their own label.

In 1968, they signed a licensing deal with Island Records with the proviso that if their acts achieved an agreed number of hits, they would be awarded a label of their own. Within a year, this tally was reached and Chrysalis Records was born.

Over the years, Chrysalis went through various ownership changes. In 1985, Chris Wright bought out Terry Ellis and later sold the label to EMI in 1991. EMI was then acquired by Universal Music Group in 2012 before selling the Parlophone Label Group (including Chrysalis) to Warner Music Group in 2013.

Big Country’s Without The Aid Of A Safety Net was their first ever live album, originally released in 1994 and recorded at a homecoming gig at The Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. The set mixes tracks taken from their recent studio album, The Buffalo Skinners, such as the singles Alone and Ships, along with the classic tracks from their catalogue In A Big Country, Look Away, Fields Of Fire as well as two Neil Young covers, Rockin’ In The Free World and Hey, Hey, My My (Out Of The Blue).The original vinyl version of this album only had a limited pressing on one vinyl. This new deluxe version features the complete unedited concert recording split over 3 vinyl for optimal sound quality. The package is a tri-fold sleeve with Triple 180 Gram Vinyl with sleeve notes written by guitarist Bruce Watson.
