The Beginning:
On July 28th, 1967, the label Trojan was launched by Island Records, one of the UK's leading independent record companies. Created as a sub-label to showcase the productions of Jamaican producer Arthur "Duke" Reid, Trojan quickly became synonymous with reggae music. The label took its name from Reid's powerful sound system and Jamaican label active at the same time. Despite being short-lived initially, Trojan highlighted some of the finest music from Jamaica during the Rocksteady era. After its demise, Trojan was resurrected and went on to dominate the Jamaican records market in the UK.
In the 60s and 70s, Trojan Records successfully spread Reggae throughout the UK and beyond by licensing Jamaican recordings and producing UK-based acts. The parent company was sold to Allied in the 1970s, who continued releasing records under Trojan Records. In 2001, Sanctuary Records Group Ltd acquired the full catalogue of Trojan Records. Subsequently, Universal Music Group purchased Sanctuary in 2007 and later sold it to BMG in 2013. Since then, BMG has distributed Trojan Records in Europe through PIAS. Reissues on Music On Vinyl since 2017 are handled by Townsend Music.
Trojan continues to be a legendary label that has played a significant role in promoting reggae music worldwide.

Horace Andy, born Horace Keith Hinds on February 19, 1951 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned roots reggae songwriter and singer. With his distinctive vocals, he has recorded for numerous Jamaican producers and labels throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His collaborations with Bristol's trip hop band Massive Attack have brought him recognition from the mainstream public. As the cousin of Justin Hinds, he was given the name Horace Andy by Bob Andy.
Horace Andy's career as a roots reggae artist spans several decades. He has worked with notable Jamaican producers such as Studio One, Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, Derrick Harriott, Keith Hudson, Tapper Zukie, and more. His unique vocal style sets him apart from other artists in the genre.

Echoes of the style can be heard in the vocals of numerous contemporaries like Patrick Andy, Michael Palmer, and Pad Anthony. Andy was also an influence on later dancehall stars Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, and Michael Rose. SKYLARKING collects prime material from several different eras. The title song dates from Andy's early days with the legendary producer Coxsone Dodd. "Natty Dread a Weh She Want", "Money Money", and the disturbingly beautiful "Rock to Sleep" are absolute classics from the prime of his popularity in Jamaica. Two tracks, "Spying Glass" and "One Love" are remixed by Massive Attack, who gave the singer's career new life when it recruited him to contribute vocals for its 1991 debut, BLUE LINES.
