Geffen Records, founded by David Geffen in 1980, is a renowned music label with a rich history. It launched its journey with Donna Summer's "The Wanderer" and went on to release iconic albums like John Lennon's "Double Fantasy". Initially distributed by Warner Bros. Records, the label was later acquired by MCA Records in 1990. Geffen played a significant role in distributing Rick Rubin's Def American Recordings during its early years. After merging with Interscope Records in 1999 as part of the Universal Music Group, Geffen absorbed the entire MCA Records catalog and roster in 2003.

In 2013, Geffen became part of Interscope but was revived in 2017 under the leadership of CEO John Janick and President Neil Jacobson. Known for their distinctive branding featuring a stylized "G ball / sphere," releases from Geffen are often credited simply as "Geffen." Please note that any references to DGC or David Geffen Company should be listed under DGC.

With an impressive legacy and an ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional music, Geffen continues to make its mark on the music industry as a subsidiary of Interscope Geffen A&M within the Universal Music Group family.

Nirvana is a rock band from Aberdeen, Washington, USA. Formed in 1987, they emerged from the Seattle grunge scene of the late 1980s/early 1990s. The power trio brought a new aesthetic to the rock scene at that time. Their major-label debut album, "Nevermind," released in 1991 by DGC/Geffen Records, broke both the band and grunge into mainstream America. Sadly, lead guitarist and vocalist Kurt Cobain's death by suicide in April 1994 marked the end of Nirvana.

The band went through several name changes before settling on Nirvana in March 1988. Prior to that, they were known as Skid Row (6), Pen Cap Chew (2), Bliss (108), Ted Ed Fred, Throat Oyster, and Windowpane.

The final lineup consisted of Kurt Cobain on lead guitar and vocals until his untimely death in April 1994; Krist Novoselic on bass and accordion from March 1987 to April 1994; and Dave Grohl on drums and backing vocals from September 25, 1990 to April 5, 1994.
