Sam Cooke was an American gospel/R&B/soul/pop singer, songwriter and entrepreneur. He is recognized as one of the founders of soul music and one of the most important singers in soul music history. Born on January 22, 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA, he tragically passed away on December 11, 1964 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Although details about his death are still disputed, official police records state that he was killed by a gunshot. Sam Cooke was also inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 (Performer) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987.

After his many musical peregrinations, Salif Keïta made a salutary return to his roots with Moffou. Originally released in 2002, the album has since sold over 200,000 copies worldwide.
