Parlophone is an anglicization of the German [l=Parlophon] label, registered as a trademark in 1902 by Max Straus and Heinrich Zuntz of [b]Salon Kinematograph Co. GmbH[/b], later merged into [l=Carl Lindström A.-G.]. The first Parlophon records are pressed in 1910. 

By 1923, Parlophone proper appears in London administered by English Lindström branch known as [l311921],  Parlophon records were pressed in London and sold locally. By 1926 extended operations extended to press for export in Australia (#cat A) until the australian factory [l=Parlophone Co. Ltd.] was created somewhere the next year. These companies were subsequently taken over by [l97841] in 1927, following its acquisition of [l275192] in 1926, thus becoming a constituent part of [l293204] (EMI) when that company merged with [l253617] in 1931.

The label largely operated as a Jazz and Novelty label until manager, [a=George Martin], signed the [a=The Beatles] in 1962. As a result of its subsequent success and profile, the label was earmarked for phasing out in 1973 in favour of [l=EMI] (the label), however the parlophone imprint continued to be used by registered trademark owner [l=EMI Records Ltd.] and affiliated companies.

In September 2012 following the acquisition of [l1330982]'s US and Asian interests by [l=Universal Music Group], Parlophone and the former EMI Records Ltd. were merged as the [l806790] (PLG Holdco Ltd.) and spun off to be sold. 

They were sold to [l=Warner Music Group] in March 2013.
The Parlophone label is now owned by [l=Parlophone Records Ltd.], the re-named EMI Records Ltd., itself a subsidiary of [l=Warner Music International].

The Beatles were not part of the Parlophone Label Group and their catalogue was acquired by [l=Universal].

Parlophone

Syd Barrett was a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer, and painter. He played a key role in the development of London's underground music scene during the late 1960s and had a lasting influence on popular music. Unfortunately, he faced mental health issues possibly exacerbated by drug use after achieving success with Pink Floyd. As his behavior became increasingly unpredictable and unreliable as a performer, he left the band in 1968 and pursued a brief solo career before retiring from music. Barrett passed away in 2006 due to complications from diabetes.

Despite his relatively short period of activity, Syd Barrett remains an influential figure in music history. Born on January 6th, 1946 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK, he made significant contributions to the vibrant underground music scene of late 1960s London.

After experiencing success with Pink Floyd but struggling with mental health problems likely influenced by drug use, Barrett's time with the band came to an end in 1968. He embarked on a brief solo career and released albums such as The Madcap Laughs and Barrett before ultimately leaving the industry altogether.

An Introduction to Syd Barrett is a collection that brings together for the first time the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett on one compilation. David Gilmour, who originally worked with Syd Barrett on the solo albums by co-producing The Madcap Laughs and as producer of Barrett has taken the role of executive producer for the album and has, along with Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria studios, remixed five tracks including 'Octopus', 'She Took a Long Cool Look', 'Dominoes' and 'Here I Go On' which David Gilmour has added and played bass guitar. Pink Floyd's 'Matilda mother' also receives a fresh 2010 mix. Brand new artwork has been provided by Storm Thorgerson and his estimable studio.
