The Drones are a British punk band that formed in October 1976 in Manchester and later relocated to London. Originally known as Rockslide, the band released a single in October 1975 before transitioning into punk rock. The classic line-up from 1976-1979 consisted of *M. J. Drone* on vocals and guitar, *Gus Gangrene* on lead guitar, *Whispa* on bass, and *Pete Purrfect* on drums.
After disbanding around 1982, The Drones reformed in 1996 for the Holidays In The Sun Festival and went on to perform gigs in Japan and the USA. However, tragedy struck when M.J Drone (Mike Howells) passed away on January 10th, 2013.
The Drones have been influential within the punk genre and have drawn comparisons to artists such as Gareth Liddiard, Rowland S. Howard, Beasts Of Bourbon, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Jack Ladder, Dick Diver, You Am I, Magic Dirt,and many others.

Cherry Red is a British label that was founded by Iain McNay in 1978. Also known as Cherry Red Records, this label has become associated with the company Music and Media Group. With the label code LC 6730, Cherry Red has made a name for itself in the music industry. It is important to note that this label should not be confused with the US label of the same name.

59 track 4 CD round up of everything released between 1977-1999 by Manchester punk legends The Drones. Disc One is their debut 13 track album Further Temptations. This was voted by ‘Q’’ magazine into their 100 Most Important Punk Albums Of All Time in 2002. Disc Two is a 20 track round up of non LP singles, B-sides and demos plus a previously unreleased four track session for John Peel. The third disc is the band’s 1999 studio ‘comeback’ album Sorted (originally released as Dirty Bastards). The final disc is a 14 track In Concert album recorded in Japan in 1998. Detailed liner notes have been overseen by the band’s long time manager Dave Bentley. Booklet contains pictures of all relevant record sleeves plus clippings from the era.
