Anthony Joseph

Anthony Joseph is one of the UK's most exciting and innovative voices. Born in Trinidad and residing in the UK since 1989, he is a poet, novelist, musician, and lecturer. Known as 'the leader of the black avant-garde in Britain', his work blends surrealism, Jazz, and the rhythms of Caribbean speech and music. With four poetry collections and a novel titled The African Origins of UFOs to his name, Anthony has been recognized by the Arts Council of England for his significant contributions to contemporary British literature.

As a musician, Anthony Joseph has released several critically acclaimed albums. His debut album Leggo De Lion (Kindred Spirits, 2007) featured lyrics from The African Origins of UFOs. He followed up with Bird Head Son (Heavenly Sweetness) in 2009 alongside the publication of his third poetry collection. Rubber Orchestras (Heavenly Sweetness), produced by Malcolm Catto (Heliocentrics) and Jerry Dammers (Specials), was released in 2011 along with a new collection of poems bearing the same title.
