Richard's journey began when she auditioned for the MTV show Making the Band 3 in Orlando back in 2005. Her talent landed her a spot competing for a place in Combs's future girl group which eventually became Danity Kane. The name was inspired by one of Richard's drawings - a female superhero that caught Combs's attention during studio sessions. When asked about the character's name, Richard replied "Danity Kane," symbolizing the girls of Making the Band 3.
