Don Carlos

Don Carlos (born Euvin Spencer, 29 June 1952), also known as Don McCarlos on some early UK releases, is a Jamaican reggae singer and composer. Raised in the deprived district of Waterhouse in Western Kingston, Jamaica, he emerged from a community that produced many talented reggae musicians such as King Tubby, The Jays, Junior Reid, and King Jammy.

Carlos began his singing career in 1972 as one of the founders of Black Uhuru alongside Garth Dennis and Derrick Simpson. After finding his sound as a soloist, he released his debut album 'Suffering' for Negus Roots in May 1981. Since then, Carlos has become popular on the live music scene and has released twelve solo albums with the collaboration of Gold (2), his backup vocalist and co-writer.

Some of Carlos' notable albums include 'Harvest Time', 'Day to Day Living', 'Them Never Know Natty Dread Have Him Credential' (1982), 'Pass Me The Lazer Beam' aka 'Spread Out' (1983), and 'Plantation' (1984). Despite reaching his peak during the dance hall craze of the 80s, Carlos maintains his roots flavor and melodies while remaining popular worldwide.
