Jake Shears

Jake Shears (born Jason F. Sellards; October 3, 1978) is an American singer, best known as the lead male singer for the pop band Scissor Sisters.

Born in Arizona, Shears grew up on San Juan Island and attended Friday Harbor High School. After facing bullying, he moved to Seattle to finish high school at The Northwest School. Later, he studied fiction writing at The New School's Eugene Lang College in New York City. Shears became a fixture on the city's gay and electroclash scene while working as a music reviewer for Paper magazine.

In 2001, Shears formed Scissor Sisters with Scott Hoffman as a performance art stunt. After struggling in New York for a couple of years, they found success in the UK and Ireland with their album becoming the biggest-selling of 2004. Known for his provocative dancing and flamboyant outfits onstage, Shears has also collaborated with artists like Andy Bell from Erasure and Tiga.
