Peter Schilling

Peter Schilling is a German pop singer, born on January 28, 1956. He gained international recognition in the early '80s with his synth pop hit "Major Tom (Coming Home)," which was inspired by David Bowie's "Space Oddity." Despite being labeled as a one-hit wonder in America, Schilling continued to pursue his music career.

As a teenager, Schilling had to choose between becoming a soccer player or pursuing his passion for singing. He ultimately chose music and released his debut album, Error in the System, in 1983. The success of "Major Tom (Coming Home)" extended beyond the United States and became a worldwide sensation. The accompanying music video received significant airplay on MTV.

In an attempt to replicate his initial success and make a comeback in the American charts, Schilling collaborated with Enigma's Michael Crétu on the track "Different Story (World of Lust and Crime)" in 1989. Although this collaboration showcased an updated sound for Schilling, he couldn't achieve the same level of success as before.

In later years, Peter Schilling reimagined "Major Tom" with a techno twist in 1994, which found popularity among club-goers. Additionally, he formed the Space Pilots band alongside Catyana Schilling, J. Feifel, and P. Magnet and recorded Trip to Orion in 1995.
