Ann Peebles is an American singer and songwriter, born on April 27, 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois. She gained international acclaim for her popular Memphis soul albums in the 1970s on the Hi Records label. Not only did she sing hits for the label, but she also co-wrote them with Don Bryant, whom she later married in 1974. Ann Peebles' music has had a lasting impact and has been sampled by numerous Hip-Hop artists including RZA, Wu-Tang Clan, and Missy Elliott.

Fat Possum Records is a label that was established in 1991 with the sole purpose of recording R.L. Burnside. Over time, it evolved into a mission to discover and record the last remaining original bluesmen before they passed away. Despite facing various challenges such as difficult personalities, limited songs, and a raw sound that didn't fit the mainstream blues market, these artists possessed immense talent and truly lived the blues.

In recent years, Fat Possum has expanded its catalog to include newer indie blues rock bands alongside their traditional offerings.

Released in 1979, 'The Handwriting Is on the Wall' boasted some high-powered funk backdrops, but for the most part the album finds Peebles taking on a set of straight-ahead soul numbers in which she was usually either taking a man away from some woman who didn't know how to hold on to him, or was warning the ladies why they should stay away from her significant other. Peebles is a tower of defiant sass on 'I Didn't Take Your Man' and 'You've Got the Papers (I've Got the Man),' she leaves no doubt about why she's dating outside her age group on 'Old Man with Young Ideas,' and 'Bip Bam Thank You Mam' alerts listeners to the consequences of not pleasing Ms Peebles.LP - With Download.
