Born in England, Annie Ross (1930-2020) was one of the early practitioners of a singing style known as vocalese, which involves the setting of original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. Ross is best remembered for her participation in a vocal trio with Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks (Lambert, Hendricks &amp; Ross).
