MPS is a German jazz label that was founded in 1968 by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer. It started as a successor to SABA and quickly gained recognition for its exceptional sound quality. Often compared to the renowned Blue Note label, MPS became known as Most Perfect Sound.

From 1971 onwards, MPS releases were distributed by BASF and later by Metronome Records GmbH (renamed Metronome Musik GmbH in 1977). However, in 1983, due to declining budgets for recording jazz music, Brunner-Schwer shifted his focus to classical music and sold the rights of MPS to Philips. Eventually, the label found its way under Polydor's ownership and its recordings were re-released by Motor Music starting from 1993.

In Hamburg, Universal Jazz Germany took over the MPS archives in 1999 while Speakers Corner Records released various vinyl reissues. After ten years since Brunner-Schwer's passing, Edel acquired MPS's back catalogue from Universal on January 7th, 2014. Now led by Andreas Brunner-Schwer and Friedhelm Schulz, the team has returned to Villingen where they continue recording new material.

William John Evans, better known as Bill Evans, was an American jazz pianist, composer, and artist. Born on August 16, 1929 in Plainfield, New Jersey, he became one of the most famous and influential jazz pianists of the 20th century. With his innovative use of impressionist harmony and unique interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, Evans left a lasting impact on generations of musicians.

Evans' distinct style was characterized by his rhythmically independent and "singing" melodic lines. His contributions to the world of jazz music were unparalleled. Throughout his career, he showcased his immense talent as a composer and performer.

Tragically, Bill Evans passed away on September 15, 1980 in New York City at the age of 51. Despite his untimely death, his legacy lives on through his timeless recordings and continued influence on contemporary keyboardists and jazz saxophonists.

Ford and Evans have shared the stage in Europe, North America and even Japan and already released one album The Sun Room together in 2019 (earMUSIC). With Common Ground they continue their creative relationship as Bill Evans explains. "Every now and then, like-minded musicians are able to get together in the studio or on the same stage and create interesting music together. It's the blending of each other's influences and styles, and the will to create something new and fresh that can turn this 'creative meeting' into something special. I believe myself and Robben share that same ideology. Robben and I both love all kinds of music whether it's classic blues, soul, rock and roll, you name it. This openness to combine different kinds of music and create something musical and special is what brought me and Robben together in the first place. Robben composed some of the most inspiring music I've played in a long time. Our writing styles blend seamlessly." The title track features the vocals of popular German singer Max Mutzke.
