<p>Cecil Taylor was an American free jazz pianist. Born on March 25, 1929 in New York City, he became a pioneering figure in the world of avant-garde jazz. Known for his innovative and energetic playing style, Taylor pushed the boundaries of traditional jazz music with his complex compositions and improvisations. His unique approach to the piano earned him critical acclaim and numerous accolades throughout his career. Cecil Taylor passed away on April 5, 2018 in New York City, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the most influential figures in modern jazz.</p>

Cecil Taylor, who died on April 5, 2018 in his hometown of Brooklyn, had a style all his own. With Ornette Coleman (1930 - 2015) he began in the 1960s to develop a music dominated by tone clusters and staccato notes that we later came to know as free jazz. The style icon on piano always began his concerts softly, slinking up to the instrument, murmuring texts to himself, almost dance-like, until the entire force of his playing style let the music's unique power resound. Here we have one of his last concerts from 2008, performed in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie.
