Charlemagne Palestine is an American minimalist composer, performer, and visual artist. Born in Brooklyn, New York on August 15th, 1945 or 1947, he has made significant contributions to the world of music and art. With a studio named *l746176*, Charlemagne Palestine continues to captivate audiences with his unique style.

Inspired by artists such as Alvin Lucier, Phill Niblock, Éliane Radigue, Tony Conrad, La Monte Young, Henry Flynt, Cornelius Cardew and many others from the avant-garde scene; Charlemagne Palestine's work pushes boundaries and challenges traditional notions of composition. His compositions often explore the relationship between sound and space through repetitive patterns and sustained tones.

With a career spanning several decades, Charlemagne Palestine has collaborated with notable performers including Deep Listening Band, Christian Marclay, Rhys Chatham,and Arnold Dreyblatt among others. His innovative approach to music composition has earned him recognition worldwide.

Charlemagne Palestine first started using electronic instruments in his music in the late 1960’s when he bought two prototype ‘Buchla’ tone generators. “Electronic instruments were very rare and exotic in the 1960’s.There were Moog’s around New York state. but they were only in universities who preciously guarded them from us young composers. so after all this time visiting The MoogSound Lab is like a dream come true for me.....to have so many oscillators all singing together is a truly beautiful experience. I am so glad i am still around and able to be making musics i first dreamt of 50 years ago”. These two releases come from our second ever UK lab session and is the first Charlemagne Palestine Moog Sound Lab. All electronic long form drone works from an archive of six recordings.
