Description

Actor Christian Reiner reads the German translation of Italian poet Pier Paolo Pasolini's work 'Land der Arbeit'. The Italian poet, essayist and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini was always an independent and unsparing chronicler of his time. In these texts, he tirelessly denounces social ills in his country; but his Catholic faith and the question of the art of poetry, too, run like strands through his work. "He wanted to celebrate the festival of life, the flower of passion, the flower of play, and finally, as an extreme action, the flower of death, his death," Wolf Wondratschek writes in his accompanying text. In this undertaking, the question of "how close one can come to the meaning of the poems" and "from being an admirer to becoming a poet's brother" were essential. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Pasolini's birth.

The collaboration between Wolf Wondratschek, Manfred Eicher and Christian Reiner was most recently preceded by the album Joseph Brodsky - Elegy to John Donne, as well as, in 2012, the Turmgedichte with works by Friedrich Hölderlin.
