Cherry Red

Cherry Red is a British label that was founded by Iain McNay in 1978. Also known as Cherry Red Records, this label has become associated with the company Music and Media Group. With the label code LC 6730, Cherry Red has made a name for itself in the music industry. It is important to note that this label should not be confused with the US label of the same name.

A comprehensive 4CD set containing expanded versions of their albums: Night People, its international alternative version entitled Classix Nouveaux, La Verité and Secret. 67 tracks including 12” versions, 7” edits, B-sides and instrumental versions. Each expanded album is housed in a mini card wallet replica of the original album sleeve. Includes a 20 page booklet containing full UK discography and a brand new interview with Sal Solo from May 2020

They were formed in 1979 by Sal Solo, Jak Airport and BP Hurding (previously of X Ray-Spex) and Mik Sweeney. By the time they came to record their first album, original guitarist Jak Airport had left to be replaced by Gary Steadman. They were one of the bands credited as being at the forefront of the nascent “New Romantic” scene along with the likes of Ultravox and Japan. During a six-year career between 1979 and 1985 they released three albums and eleven singles; the most commercially successful of which was the single Is It A Dream that reached No.11 in the UK Singles Chart.

Though they only experienced the one Top 20 hit in the UK with Is It a Dream, the band had number one hits in Poland, Portugal, Yugoslavia, Israel, Iceland as well as other countries. This carefully curated deluxe expanded 4CD Set brings together their original album releases plus a comprehensive selection of extended 12” versions, 7” edits, B-sides and instrumental versions.
