Peaceville is an English label founded by Paul Halmshaw, also known as Hammy, in 1987. The label primarily focuses on metal music and has gained a reputation for its high-quality releases. In 2000, Peaceville was sold to Snapper Music but continues to thrive under their ownership.

Throughout its history, Peaceville has used various catalog number formats to distinguish different types of releases. From 1987 to 1995, the label used "VILE ### T" for 12-inch singles, maxis, and EPs; "VILE ###" for LPs; and "VILE ### P" for picture LPs. From 1987 to 2002, CD releases were labeled as "CDVILE### / VILE ### CD," while MCDs/singles/EPs were labeled as "CDMVILE### / VILE ### TCD." Limited CDs were marked with "CDXVILE###."

In later years, Peaceville introduced new catalog number formats such as "CC#" for the Collectors Club series of 7-inch records in 1993-1994. A Heavy Metal band from Kolbotn, Norway, formed in 1987 (initially founded as Black Death in 1986).
Darkthrone started as a death metal group, but having released ‘Soulside Journey’ they decided to abandon the technical death metal style and transformed into a black metal band. The band’s sound has diversified over their career to include elements of traditional heavy metal, thrash, doom, death and speed metal, as well as crust punk. They have not played live since 1991 and since 1993 Darkthrone has been a duo consisting of Fenriz (Gylve Nagell) and Nocturno Culto (Ted Skjellum).

Darkthrone began life in the late 80's, experimenting with thrash, death & doom metal before eventually delving into the black metal genre & becoming synonymous with the style as one of the most highly regarded acts. ?Goatlord? is the title of what was to originally be Darkthrone?s second album. The style followed very much in the vein of the debut, Soulside Journey, with a mid-paced melodic, yet technical death metal style. After the recording of the tracks in their completed demo form in 1991, however, Darkthrone?s focus shifted towards black metal and a more primitive style of composition & so the album was shelved, while work commenced on what was to be the Norwegian black metal milestone, ?A Blaze in the Northern Sky?, which actually incorporated some parts from the ?Goatlord? tracks. This edition of ?Goatlord? contains new artwork, plus a bonus track in the form of the original demo version of 'A Blaze in the Northern Sky'.
