A Heavy Metal band from Kolbotn, Norway, formed in 1987 (initially founded as Black Death in 1986).
Darkthrone started as a death metal group, but having released ‘Soulside Journey’ they decided to abandon the technical death metal style and transformed into a black metal band. The band’s sound has diversified over their career to include elements of traditional heavy metal, thrash, doom, death and speed metal, as well as crust punk. They have not played live since 1991 and since 1993 Darkthrone has been a duo consisting of Fenriz (Gylve Nagell) and Nocturno Culto (Ted Skjellum).

Peaceville is an English label founded by Paul Halmshaw, also known as Hammy, in 1987. The label primarily focuses on metal music and has gained a reputation for its high-quality releases. In 2000, Peaceville was sold to Snapper Music but continues to thrive under their ownership.

Throughout its history, Peaceville has used various catalog number formats to distinguish different types of releases. From 1987 to 1995, the label used "VILE ### T" for 12-inch singles, maxis, and EPs; "VILE ###" for LPs; and "VILE ### P" for picture LPs. From 1987 to 2002, CD releases were labeled as "CDVILE### / VILE ### CD," while MCDs/singles/EPs were labeled as "CDMVILE### / VILE ### TCD." Limited CDs were marked with "CDXVILE###."

In later years, Peaceville introduced new catalog number formats such as "CC#" for the Collectors Club series of 7-inch records in 1993-1994. Re-issued CDs with slipcases from 1999 onwards are labeled as "CDVILEM###." Since 2002, CDs have been designated as "CDVILEF###," limited CDs as "CDVILEF###X," MCDs/singles/EPs as "CD

Darkthrone began life in the late 80's as a thrash/death metal act and progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world. They were one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands. 

Released in 2013 The Underground Resistance was another stellar venture through the metal cosmos and contains Darkthrone's trademark masterful riffing in a broad range of styles, effortlessly bounding through the annals of classic metal, taking in thrash &amp; black metal &amp; not forgetting a dose of punk. Overall, a ferocious &amp; dynamic set of tracks drenched in Fenriz's &amp; Nocturno's rich &amp; diverse tastes in all things metal, primarily those rooted firmly in the spirit of the 80's. 6 tracks long &amp; every-one, an epic, this was undoubtedly among Darkthrone's strongest material of the decade.

The Underground Resistance was written &amp; recorded spring 2010 to summer 2012 at Necrohell 2 studios by the band themselves. The album was mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door, Texas USA. Cover artwork also comes courtesy of the iconic and celebrated artist Jim Fitzpatrick.
