Darrell Banks was a Detroit based soul singer, born on July 25, 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio. He released several singles and albums with various record labels throughout his career. Banks worked with notable producers such as Don Davis and George Clinton. Tragically, he was shot and killed by an off-duty policeman during a dispute with his girlfriend in 1970. Despite his untimely death, Banks left behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to resonate with fans today.

One of Banks' most famous songs, "Open The Door To Your Heart," which he co-wrote with fellow musician Donnie Elbert, gained significant popularity. In fact, collectors were willing to bid thousands of pounds for a copy of the original London Records pressing in an online auction held in the UK.

Although Darrell Banks faced challenges during his lifetime and lay in an unmarked grave for many years after his death, his devoted fans from around the world came together to honor him. In 2004, they funded a Memorial Bench placed on his grave so that visitors can pay their respects to this talented artist who touched so many lives through his music.

Outta Sight is a UK based label that was originally launched in January 2007 as a Castle Music imprint, part of Sanctuary Records Group Ltd. It is now independently controlled and has become a limited company with Glenn Gunton and Tim Brown as directors. Although the limited company appears to have dissolved in 2015, Outta Sight continues to deliver a monthly collection of rare soul on vinyl and CD.

The label's Vinyl Series includes three different categories: OSV (Outta Sight Northern Soul), RSV (Outta Sight Rhythm & Soul), and MSV (Outta Sight Modern Soul). Each category has its own release schedule, with three 7-inch singles per month for OSV and RSV, and three per quarter for MSV. Every package is carefully compiled and packaged with the utmost reverence for this important archive.

Darrell Banks is a bona fide Northern Soul legend alongside the likes of Frank Wilson, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, Gene Chandler etc. His iconic 1966 Revilot single Open The Door To Your Heart / Our Love (Is In The Pocket) is one the most played, collected and revered 45s on the scene. In 2014 a black &amp; silver UK London stock copy of the record was discovered and put up for auction. It had long been remoured to exist but had evaded every serious UK rare soul collector. It achieved a staggering £14,000 finishing price and further cemented the legendary status of both record and artist. In 1969 Banks signed to the Volt record label and recorded one album, Here To Stay, and two singles. Here is his classy crossover 45 I’m The One Who Loves You in glorious stereo coupled with the album-only cut Forgive Me available for the very first time on 7-inch single. These recordings would be his last, within weeks of completing the album he was shot dead by off-duty police patrolman Aaron Bullock during an altercation with Banks’ former girlfriend Marjorie Bozeman.
