ECM Records, also known as "The Creative Label," is a German independent label that was co-founded by producer Manfred Eicher, Manfred Scheffner, and Karl Egger in Munich (Pasing) in 1969. With the label code LC 2516 / LC 02516, ECM stands for Edition of Contemporary Music and focuses on jazz and Western classical music. They showcase both acoustic and electronic artists who produce eclectic versions of contemporary music.

ECM's extensive catalog features a wide range of genres, from contemporary works by renowned composers like Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, and Philip Glass to experimental and electronic jazz from artists such as Nils Petter Molvær, Pat Metheny Group, and Jan Garbarek. Over the past 40+ years, ECM has released more than 1500 recordings that have been acclaimed for their exceptional music quality, creative production techniques, and outstanding sound.

Although an independent label, ECM titles are distributed by Universal Music Group (UMG) in the US, Japan, and throughout Europe. However, they have also collaborated with other distributors over the years. Notably during the period when Polydor distributed ECM products in Germany; [l447694] was used for pressing identified by a CP suffix on labels and runouts. Afterward,[l25946] became their primary distributor.

Joseph Salvatore Lovano, known as Joe Lovano, was born on December 29, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up in a musical household, his father Tony, a barber by day and a talented tenor player by night, along with his brothers Nick and Joe and their uncle Carl, ensured that Jazz and the saxophone were ingrained in Joe's life from an early age.

Lovano is a highly respected jazz artist who has made significant contributions to the genre. His unique style draws inspiration from various influences such as Chris Potter, Joe Henderson, Jerry Bergonzi, Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman Quartet and many others.

With an extensive discography spanning over several decades and collaborations with renowned musicians like Charles Lloyd, Christian McBride and Branford Marsalis among others; Lovano's virtuosity on the saxophone continues to captivate audiences worldwide. He is truly a master of his craft.

On Once Around The Room ECM recording artists and key jazz musicians from several generations unite in a small ensemble to celebrate the musical legacy of drum icon Paul Motian in a big way.

Joe Lovano and Jakob Bro lead a party of seven through fiery originals that recall the idioms and idiosyncrasies which Motian brought to light over six influential decades behind the drums. Lovano and Motian had been intimate colleagues for many years with their most notable collaboration being the groundbreaking trio featuring Bill Frisell - the lineup released three albums on ECM. Jakob Bro on the other hand made his ECM debut on Paul's album Garden of Eden (2006). 

Compositions by Joe and Jakob appear alongside collective improvisation and Motian's own "Drum Music", seamlessly tied together and developed by an accomplished musical collective with stalwarts Larry Grenadier, Thomas Morgan and Anders Christensen respectively on bass as well as drummers Joey Baron and Jorge Rossy.
