Description

‘The Iceman Cometh’, Jerry Butler’s most successful album, was the first full-album production by the legendary Philadelphian producers, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. It marked a collaboration that brought R&B production techniques to a level of maturity and elegance capable of fully complementing one of the smoothest and charismatic vocalists in soul music history. The chart singles “Hey, Western Union Man” and “Only The Strong Survive” weren’t just popular radio hits, but great performances displaying how far the r&b/soul movement had progressed from the novelty-laden records of the ‘50s. Thanks to Butler and the Gamble and Huff team, their sound proved incredibly influential, both in the short term and up to the present day. Originally released on Mercury Records, November 1968 Limited CD in mini-LP packaging with gatefold sleeve and inner paper sleeve and Limited Edition 180gram vinyl with original artwork.
