BMG Rights Management, formerly known as Bertelsmann Music Group, is a global music conglomerate with a rich history in the industry. Originally formed in 1985 as a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and RCA, BMG has since evolved into a powerhouse of music production and distribution.

In 1986, Bertelsmann acquired full ownership of RCA and Arista Records through the purchase of their joint venture's stock from General Electric. The following year, these labels were merged under the umbrella of Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), solidifying its position as a major player in the music world.

In 2004, BMG joined forces with Sony Music to create Sony BMG Music Entertainment. However, in 2008, Bertelsmann sold its stake in the company, leading to the formation of BMG Rights Management. Today, BMG continues to thrive as a leading record label and distributor worldwide.

Jim Croce was an American singer and songwriter, born on January 10, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He tragically passed away at the age of 30 in an airplane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Despite his short career, Croce left a lasting impact on the music industry with his heartfelt songs and captivating storytelling.

Croce's music resonated with audiences through his relatable lyrics and soulful voice. His style blended elements of folk, rock, and country, creating a unique sound that appealed to a wide range of listeners. Songs like "Time in a Bottle," "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," and "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)" became timeless classics.

Although he may no longer be with us, Jim Croce's legacy lives on through his son A.J. Croce who also pursued a successful career in music. Throughout his life, Jim was supported by his loving spouse Ingrid Croce who stood by him during both triumphs and challenges.

2022 marks 50 years since Jim Croce released his breakout album, You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. BMG celebrates the timeless album’s anniversary with limited edition Gold colour pressings on Vinyl and CD complete with matching alternate gold-bordered cover artwork.

Produced by Terry Cashman and Tommy West, and featuring the brilliant guitar interplay of Maury Muehleisen, You Don’t Mess Around With Jim, catapulted the seasoned songwriter into the public consciousness and spent 93 weeks on the charts. Over the last 50 years, the tracks “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,” “Operator (That’s Not the Way It Feels),” “Time In a Bottle,” and “Photographs and Memories” have become staples of the contemporary folk canon. The album posthumously went to Number 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1974 and has been certified Gold. The release leads into further celebrations in 2023, as BMG and the Croce estate commemorate 50 years since his untimely passing along with what would have been his 80th birthday.
