Description

The second album by John Carter and Bobby Bradford is a rare and in-demand item from the Flying Dutchman catalogue. It is reissued here for the first time on CD. Recorded in Los Angeles in 1970 it was a follow up to their 'Flight For Four' and carries forward that album's take on improvisational music. Carter and Bradford were members of a small but vociferous community of experimental jazz players based in the city which also included Horace Tapscott. Los Angeles was not especially known for experimental music and recordings in this style were rare and mostly done by small independents. This album was made with the full support of Flying Dutchman's owner Bob Thiele and is one of the best-known examples of an under-recorded scene. The music is a fine example of both the leaders' compositional ability, and demonstrates how much a working group can bring to avant-garde jazz.
