Junip is a Swedish folk rock band that was formed in 1998. The duo of José González (vocals, guitars) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, Moog synthesizer) make up the core of the group, with additional musicians joining them for recordings and live performances.

The band initially started as a hobby for the three members, who were all pursuing other careers at the time. Winterkorn worked part-time as a teacher, Araya was an art student, and González was studying biochemistry. In 2000, they released their first EP titled "Straight Lines".

After recording their second album, Araya left the band before their supporting tour. However, Junip continued to perform live with replacement drummers.

Junip originally formed in Gothenburg, Sweden,by Jose Gonzlez (guitar, vocals), Elias Araya (drums) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ / moog). Junip have periodically gathered together and recorded when schedules permitted, but this is the first time all the members have focused exclusively on the band. Their sound will be familiar to those who have listened to Gonzlez's acclaimed records, but added to the mix on top of his nylon stringed guitar and distinctive voice are organs, analogue synths and drums. The influences are diverse and wide-ranging, from Neu! to Shuggie Otis and John Martyn, while the place to which it takes you is one of pastoral contemplation, hazy summer memories and autumnal grace...
