Junip is a Swedish folk rock band that was formed in 1998. The duo of José González (vocals, guitars) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, Moog synthesizer) make up the core of the group, with additional musicians joining them for recordings and live performances.

The band initially started as a hobby for the three members, who were all pursuing other careers at the time. Winterkorn worked part-time as a teacher, Araya was an art student, and González was studying biochemistry. In 2000, they released their first EP titled "Straight Lines".

After recording their second album, Araya left the band before their supporting tour. However, Junip continued to perform live with replacement drummers.

Just as Fields pushed boundaries and expectations, Junip expands the stylistic palette yet again with unexpected juxtapositions. "We're somewhere between a German jazz band and an African pop band," Gonzalez cracks. As such, infectious album opener (and first single) 'Line of Fire' layers Beatlesque melody on top of a hypnotic groove that splits the difference between flamenco syncopation and krautrock repetition, Gonzalez's heartfelt vocal cresting with emotion as the track builds towards a symphonic climax. 'Baton' also introduces Gonzalez's infectious newfound whistling technique, where he creates hooks literally out of thin air.
