Doctor Bird is a music label that was founded in the UK by Graeme Goodall, an Australian sound engineer and original shareholder of Island Records. The label was revived by Trojan Records in 1970 for three releases before being relaunched in 2017 as a division of Cherry Red Records. Doctor Bird specializes in vintage Jamaican sounds licensed from the catalogue of Trojan Records.
Graeme Goodall played a significant role in the Jamaican music scene, engineering sessions at various studios and producing countless recordings during the ska era. He also formed other labels such as Pyramid Records and Attack to promote reggae music. Despite relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1970s, Goodall continued his involvement with music until his passing in 2014.
Today, Doctor Bird continues to bring Jamaican rocksteady and other vintage sounds to music enthusiasts worldwide through their curated selection of releases. With its rich history and dedication to preserving iconic Jamaican music, Doctor Bird remains a respected authority on this genre.

Linval Thompson is a Jamaican reggae and dub musician, record producer, and label owner. Born on October 12, 1954 in Kingston, Jamaica, he was raised by his mother in Queens, New York. Starting his recording career in New York with *r=5911496*, Thompson later returned to Jamaica where he collaborated with *a=Phil Pratt* and worked at the renowned Black Ark studio with *a41272*. He also recorded with *a=Bunny Lee*, resulting in his debut album *m=374808* in 1976.

Thompson's talent extended beyond singing as he began producing his own material. His productions included notable albums like *m=151398* (1978) and the dub album *m=821084*, both released on the esteemed label *l2068*. Alongside his solo work, Thompson became a prominent producer for artists such as Dennis Brown, Cornell Campbell, The Wailing Souls, Barrington Levy, Trinity and more. His collaborations were released through various labels including Trojan Records as well as his own labels: *l63555*, *l57939*, *l540653*, *l944166*, and *l216342*.

Today, almost half a century since its emergence in Jamaica, dub still continues to exert a profound influence upon popular music globally, although it was the golden era of mid-to-late Seventies that undoubtedly produced its finest examples. During this time a host of sublime collections in the style saw issue in Jamaica and the UK, and of these, few have been more sought-after than the two LPs showcased on this CD. First released by Trojan Records in 1978 and 1979, respectively, both of these Linval Thompson-produced albums were cut at Jo Jo Hoo Kim’s famed Channel One studio, with musical backing supplied by celebrated session crew, the Revolutionaries, which featured within its ranks Jamaica’s illustrious riddim twins, Sly and Robbie. Given the array of talent that contributed to the 20 recordings presented here, it is hardly surprising that the musicianship, riddims and hard and heavy mixes are all of the highest order. And with neither of these essential long-players previously issued on CD, this 2-on-1 set is a dub-lovers dream come true.
