Description

Inspired by Betty Mabry (soon to be Davis) and her love of the hip, bold new sounds of Hendrix and the irrepressible groove of James Brown, Davis moved into funkier, dirtier territory on this 1968 recording. A sensational band, including on various tracks Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and Chick Corea, and the presence behind the scenes of arranger Gil Evans, this is a stunning example of how Davis kept relevant and fresh whilst always keeping the quality control at a high.
