Mudhoney is an American alternative rock band that was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988. The band was created by vocalist Mark Arm and former guitarist Steve Turner after the split of the influential Seattle band Green River.

Although Mudhoney did not achieve the same level of fame as some of their label and city mates, they were a significant part of the early 90s grunge scene. With their enduring presence, they have become one of the most respected and long-lasting groups from that era.

Known for their raw and energetic sound, Mudhoney has left a lasting impact on alternative rock music. Their contributions to the genre continue to be celebrated by fans around the world.

Short for "Subterranean Pop" 

The label was an outgrowth of [a=Bruce Pavitt]'s Olympia, WA based (print) fanzine, which became the well respected cassettezine of the same name. 

After his move to Seattle he ran a music column in the Seattle Rocket also called Sub Pop.

After initial forays into the record label world with a [a=Green River] 7" (not officially on Sub Pop) and the Sub Pop 100 LP, the label exploded onto the indie scene with four influential colored vinyl 7"s which included [a=Mudhoney]'s "Touch Me I'm Sick" which made the year-end top 10 playlist of nearly every music journalist in the world.

Subsequent hyping of the label in the English music press put them on the map, and grunge was born.

In 2008, both Sub Pop and Mudhoney celebrated their 20th anniversaries. Sub Pop could think of no better way to do so than by putting out as many Mudhoney records as possible. So they released an excellent, new Mudhoney album called The Lucky Ones and also this deluxe, remastered edition of Superfuzz Bigmuff. Here you will find: the original Superfuzz EP in its correct running order, singles, demos, and two blistering live recordings from 1988, all remastered, or in some cases, mastered for the very first time.
