The technical German death metal band Obscura was founded in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer and drummer Jonas Baumgartl. They quickly gained attention when they toured as support for Suffocation on their European tour in 2006 and independently released their debut album 'Retribution' the same year. With a new lineup of virtuoso musicians, including drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist) and fretless bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-Pestilence), Obscura creates a unique blend of death, thrash, black metal, and progressive elements. Their music is characterized by technical prowess and compositional demand.
