Odetta, born on December 31, 1930 in Birmingham, AL, was an influential American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and human rights activist. She played a significant role in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and '60s.

Her musical repertoire encompassed a wide range of genres including American folk music, blues, jazz, and spirituals. Odetta's powerful voice and captivating performances made her an inspiration for many musicians such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, Harry Belafonte, Carly Simon, and Janis Joplin.

As a performer she was a major influence over Harry Belafonte, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and more! She also counted Dr Martin Luther King amongst her very important fans. This 2CD set features live performances from Carnegie Hall and Greenwich Village clubs and includes her only UK hit, a duet with Harry Belafonte on a version of "There's A Hole In My Bucket".
