Description

R&B lovers will need no introduction to Roy Brown’s ‘Boogie At Midnight’ or Lloyd Price’s ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’, but these recently discovered first takes put a whole new perspective on two proven classics. The fast and furious ‘Boogie At Midnight’ makes the issued 1951 master sound like a lullaby in comparison, while ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ has an alternate opening line that would have guaranteed no airplay back in 1952. Both tracks are taken from new transfers of the original acetate and tape sources, and both play loud and proud. Each side offers a representation of the original label designs that would have been used had they been issued at the time of recording. No self-respecting R&B singles collector will want to be without a copy of this essential commemorative 7-incher featuring two of the greatest names in 1950s black American music.
