American latin-rock group, formed in the late 1960s, led by guitarist Carlos Santana. They gained popularity after their iconic performance at Woodstock Festival in 1969. Their self-titled debut album, along with "Abraxas" and "Santana III," all released under Columbia Records, became huge hits.

With the release of "Caravanserai" in 1972, Santana embarked on a new musical journey towards a more experimental and jazz-oriented sound. Albums like "Welcome," "Borboletta," and the triple live album "Lotus" showcased their artistic evolution during this period.

Throughout the years, Santana underwent lineup changes and experimented with different musical styles while maintaining their Latin influence. The American bass guitarist and record producer Bill Laswell has been involved in thousands of recordings with many great artists, including Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Pharoah Sanders and even produced the Miles Davis remix album&nbsp;Panthalassa. He draws his music from funk, world music, jazz, dub, and ambient styles. His 2001 album&nbsp;Divine Light features inspired “reconstructions and mix translations” of tracks from Carlos' first spiritual explorations. For this album, Laswell went for the two albums that were an explicit acknowledgement of Santana's love of John Coltrane,&nbsp;Illuminations&nbsp;(1974) and&nbsp;Love Devotion Surrender&nbsp;(1973).
