The roots of Chrysalis stretch back to a tiny flat in West London in 1967, when former university social secretaries, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis, linked their flair for managing and booking bands to form the Ellis Wright Agency. After trying to release their bands' records via other companies, they decided to start their own label.

In 1968, they signed a licensing deal with Island Records with the proviso that if their acts achieved an agreed number of hits, they would be awarded a label of their own. Within a year, this tally was reached and Chrysalis Records was born.

Over the years, Chrysalis went through various ownership changes. In 1985, Chris Wright bought out Terry Ellis and later sold the label to EMI in 1991. EMI was then acquired by Universal Music Group in 2012 before selling the Parlophone Label Group (including Chrysalis) to Warner Music Group in 2013.

The Shop Assistants were a Scottish indie pop band formed in 1983 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The band consisted of Alex Taylor on vocals, David Keegan on guitar, Sarah Kneale on bass and later vocals, Laura McPhail on drums, and Ann Donald also on drums.

During their active years from 1983 to 1990, the Shop Assistants gained recognition for their energetic live performances and catchy melodic tunes. They were known for their distinctive blend of jangly guitars and heartfelt lyrics that resonated with audiences.

Although they disbanded in 1990, the legacy of the Shop Assistants lives on through their influential contributions to the indie pop genre. Their music continues to inspire new generations of artists and fans alike.

Shop Assistants formed in Edinburgh in 1984 and quickly
gained a cult following, playing with kindred spirits the Pastels
and the Jesus and Mary Chain and gaining positive coverage in
fanzines and the music press. Their Shopping Parade EP and
Safety Net single both hit the top of the indie charts and
charmed listeners with their unique melodic blend of punk rock
and 60s pop.


The band signed to Geoff Travis’ new Chrysalis Records
imprint, Blue Guitar, in 1986 for the release of their debut
album Will Anything Happen. The album has since become a
cult classic and is an essential listen for fans of indie, dream-
pop, and shoe gaze. Stand-out songs include the lead single
‘I Don’t Wanna Be Friends With You’, ‘All Day Long’, and
‘Somewhere In China’.

Out of print for over a decade, vinyl copies now fetch
impressive prices amongst collectors. This new reissue
features the album newly remastered from the original tapes
by Phil Kinrade and cut by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering.
Pressed on 140g clear vinyl, housed in a sleeve with spot-UV
detailing and a printed inner sleeve with lyrics and photos.


2CD expanded edition also available featuring previously
unreleased recordings including the Peel Session, Out takes, and live in London and Deinze.
