Shpongle is a psychedelic electronic music project formed in 1996 by Simon Posford and Raja Ram. They met at Butterfly Studios in Brixton, South London while working on separate projects. Inspired by their experience at Glastonbury festival, they decided to create something downtempo and thus Shpongle was born.
Their unique sound combines elements of "world music" with contemporary western psychedelic electronic music. Simon Posford handles the synth and studio work, while Raja Ram contributes flute arrangements and creative sensibilities.
With their captivating blend of genres, Shpongle continues to captivate audiences around the world with their mesmerizing soundscapes and innovative approach to music production.

An unpredictable self proclaimed “accidental record label” founded in Manchester in 1997 by 21 year old Grand Central / Fat City graphic designer Andy Votel and printer Damon Gough in order to release Gough’s very first compositions under the name *Badly Drawn Boy*. The label, known as Twisted Music, emerged from obscurity and became a much needed alternative to Manchester’s vibrant dance music and laddish Indie-rock scenes of the era. They reserved a place for genuine alternative and unassuming artists devoid of genre but often dubbed as psychedelic and Lo-Fi.

Twisted Music's first releases were taken from cassette and pressed on 7” vinyl in Nashville. Artists like *Dakota Oak* and *Mum & Dad* similarly emerged from obscurity to persuade the founders to continue the label. With regular vinyl releases and events, Twisted Music quickly gained a large cult following in what would soon be known as The Northern Quarter.

The label played an important role in launching the careers of several successful groups such as *Elbow*, *Doves*, Jane Weaver's band *Misty Dixon*, and Kings Of Convenience. Despite selling more T-Shirts with their omnipresent dead bunny logo than actual records, Twisted Music never officially closed its doors while Votel and Gough pursued other projects. Today, it is considered a pre-cursor to Votel’s Finders Keepers Records archival label.

Shpongle’s 5th studio album originally released in 2013. After four years of touring, Shpongle returned with a new album, though much has changed. Music production isn't something for just enthusiasts anymore, and the tools needed to make an entire album in your bedroom are becoming increasingly available and affordable... yet this just makes Shpongle's return all the more welcome. In a time where more and more focus is put on commercialisation and churning out quick hits, Simon and Raja's latest work is a welcome breathe of fresh air wedded to nostalgia, and proves that the group isn't ready to become stagnant anytime soon. Now for 2023 this has been remastered and re cut by Abbey Road.
