Surgeon is an English electronic musician and DJ. With a career spanning over two decades, Surgeon has established himself as one of the most influential figures in the techno genre. Tresor is a Berlin-based techno label that was founded in July 1991 by Dimitri Hegemann. The label takes its name from the techno club that was established in an underground vault after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Tresor was formerly a division of another label, and it has undergone changes to its label code over the years.

From 1991 to 2002, Tresor had the label code LC 7572 / LC 07572. Afterward, from 2002 onwards, the label's code changed to LC 3702 / LC 03702.

Tresor has played a significant role in shaping the techno music scene with its authoritative presence and influential releases. With its roots deeply embedded in Berlin's rich musical history, Tresor continues to be at the forefront of electronic music innovation and remains a respected force within the industry.

116 was remastered in 2015 by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, London. Tresor Records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. Three of the finest in this collection were contributed by Surgeon; "Basictonalvocabulary", "Balance" and "Force + Form" all originally came out on the Berlin institution between 1997 and 1999. Surgeon's inimitable combination of Detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his British homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on Tresor. Tresor Records have decided that its high time to give these seminal albums another airing, and will present each in a staggered series of 2LP represses throughout the year. "Force + Form Remakes" accompanies Surgeon's third album on Tresor, and as per its two predecessors, presents essential alternate versions by Surgeon and Mick Harris. Tresor.
