Glass Modern

Glass Modern is a London independent record label that has been making waves in the music industry since its inception in 1981. Originally known as Glass Records (2), the label played a pivotal role during the vibrant 1980s music scene and continued to operate until 1990.
After a brief hiatus, Glass Records made a triumphant return in 2015 under the name Glass Redux. This resurrection brought new life to the label, allowing it to once again showcase its passion for groundbreaking music.
In 2018, Glass Modern was launched as an imprint of Glass Redux. With this exciting development, the label expanded its roster and continued to push boundaries within the industry. Known for their commitment to artistic integrity and innovation, *Glass Modern* has become synonymous with quality music that challenges conventions.

Record Store Day is an annual event inaugurated in 2007 to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store". Held on one Saturday every April and every Black Friday in November, the day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world.

Swell Maps C21 is a groundbreaking artist known for their unique blend of punk, post-punk, and experimental rock. Formed in the late 1970s, Swell Maps C21 quickly gained a reputation for their raw energy and unconventional song structures.

With their debut album "A Trip to Marineville," Swell Maps C21 established themselves as pioneers of the DIY punk movement. Their music was characterized by chaotic guitar riffs, dissonant melodies, and poetic lyrics that explored themes of alienation and urban decay.

Despite limited commercial success during their initial run, Swell Maps C21's influence on alternative music cannot be overstated. Their innovative sound paved the way for bands like Sonic Youth and Pavement, who would go on to achieve mainstream success in the following decades.

The Sound of Swell Maps: a live retrospective presented by Jowe Head with guest musicians in December 2021. Over two nights, Jowe Head, a founder-member of Swell Maps, presented two different sets of the band’s output live on stage at Cafe Oto, with contributions from an impressive range of musicians and singers and artists, including Luke Haines (Auteurs), David Lance Callahan (Wolfhounds), Jeffrey Bloom (TV Personalities), Gina Birch (Raincoats)' Lee McFadden (TV Personalities/ATV) Ian Wadley: drums, Lucie Rejchrtova: piano
