Demon is a UK 80s New Wave label that was founded by Elvis Costello, Andrew Lauder, and the company behind the label in 1980. In 1998, the label was acquired by Music Collection International and merged with its Westside Records operation. Today, Demon forms part of the Demon Music Group Ltd.

Initially a British folk-rock combo called Tyrannosaurus Rex, fronted by guitarist/vocalist Marc Bolan. They became glam rock pioneers and shortened their name to T. Rex in 1970. They had a series of top ten hits in the UK, including four number one singles. In America, the group only had one major hit - "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". They retained a following until Marc Bolan's death in 1977.
T Rex was an influential artist who started as a folk-rock band known as Tyrannosaurus Rex before transitioning into glam rock under the shortened name T. Rex. Led by the talented guitarist and vocalist Marc Bolan, they achieved great success with numerous top ten hits in the UK, including four number one singles. Although their popularity was limited in America, they did have one major hit with "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". Despite Marc Bolan's untimely death in 1977, T Rex continued to maintain a dedicated fan base.

As part of our T. Rex “1973” year campaign, alongside the Whatever Happened To The Teenage Dream? 5LP and 4CD box sets, and the Songwriter: 1973 LP, Demon Records issue T. Rex’s 1973 singles as highly- collectable limited edition 7” picture discs, with photos from the Keith Morris archive.

The first release is the absolute classic “20th Century Boy”, originally released in early March 1973, and these days amongst Marc Bolan’s best remembered songs. It peaked in the UK charts at number 3, where it stayed for three weeks, while skinheads-turned glam-rockers Slade’s “Cum On Feel The Noize” remained at number 1, and the number 2 slot was occupied by The Faces (“Cindy Incidentally”) and then Donny Osmond (“The Twelfth Of Never”). 

&nbsp;“20th Century Boy” returned to the UK Top 20 in August 1991, peaking at number 13, after being used in a TV ad for Levi's starring Brad Pitt (the one where he’s being released from prison). The song has been covered by Def Leppard and Siouxsie and The Banshees, amongst others. 

Neither “20th Century Boy” or its B-side “Free Angel” appeared on the Tanx album, released three weeks later.
