The roots of Chrysalis stretch back to a tiny flat in West London in 1967, when former university social secretaries, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis, linked their flair for managing and booking bands to form the Ellis Wright Agency. After trying to release their bands' records via other companies, they decided to start their own label.

In 1968, they signed a licensing deal with Island Records with the proviso that if their acts achieved an agreed number of hits, they would be awarded a label of their own. Within a year, this tally was reached and Chrysalis Records was born.

Over the years, Chrysalis went through various ownership changes. In 1985, Chris Wright bought out Terry Ellis and later sold the label to EMI in 1991. EMI was then acquired by Universal Music Group in 2012 before selling the Parlophone Label Group (including Chrysalis) to Warner Music Group in 2013.

The Blue Aeroplanes is an English indie rock band that was founded in 1981 in Bristol. The band was formed by brothers Gerard and John, along with dancer Wojtek, who originally planned to name his brother's band "Niebieske Samoloty" (Blue Aeroplanes in Polish). Since its inception, the band has had an ever-changing lineup, with a total of 41 ex-members as of 2016. Only Gerard, John, and Wojtek have remained constant members throughout the years. Notably, John briefly left the band between 1990 and 2004 to drum for Strangelove.

Over the years, former and current members of The Blue Aeroplanes have gone on to join other notable bands such as Primal Scream, Witness, Massive Attack, and Strangelove. The band is known for their energetic live performances and often concludes their sets with "Breaking In My Heart." During this song, they have been known to invite multiple guest guitarists on stage to play the main riff. In fact, when touring as support for R.E.M. in the early 1990s, they had a remarkable moment where a total of 15 guitarists played simultaneously on stage.

An interesting anecdote surrounding The Blue Aeroplanes is that REM's famous song "Losing My Religion" is rumored to be written about Gerard from the band. With their unique sound and influential presence in the indie

Formed in 1981, The Blue Aeroplanes are Bristol’s longest running band and a true art-rock institution who have inspired countless post-punk and alternative groups including R.E.M., Radiohead, and Manic Street Preachers. ‘Beatsongs’ was first released in 1991 and became their highest charting album, featuring standout tracks such as ‘Yr Own World’, ‘Fun’, ‘Colour Me’, and ‘The Boy In The Bubble’ (a cover of the Paul Simon classic). After being out-of-print on vinyl for over three decades, this new Record Store Day edition has been curated by the band and includes a newly remastered version of Beatsongs (using the original production masters), plus B-sides from the era on side four. Pressed on two 140g clear vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve with newly expanded artwork including lyrics, photos, and liner notes.
