Formed in 1981 in Middleton, just north of Manchester, The Chameleons are a post-punk band that gained attention from legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. Their first single "In Shreds" made waves on the music scene and despite encouraging sales, they faced setbacks with their record labels. However, the band persevered and released their debut album "Script of the Bridge", followed by "What Does Anything Mean? Basically". After a tumultuous period, they reunited in the new millennium and released an unplugged album titled 'Strip'.

The Chameleons started their journey when Mark Burgess joined forces with Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding. With no drummer initially, they caught the attention of John Peel who played a pivotal role in their early success. Despite signing with CBS for their first single "In Shreds", disagreements over their sound led to them parting ways after just one release. They then signed with Statik but were overlooked by the music press due to distribution limitations through Virgin.

The band's debut album "Script of the Bridge" was recorded during a six-week period in Rochdale. However, MCA released a reduced version of the album in the US without consulting or informing The Chameleons, causing frustration within the band. Despite facing contractual obligations with Statik, they eventually signed with Geffen after releasing their second album "What Does Anything Mean? Basically". Like Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, Comsat Angels - the Chameleons with their first release created another essential album in the golden post-punk era. An hour's worth of one amazing song after another, practically a greatest-hits record on its own: the John Lennon tribute Here Today, Monkeyland, Pleasure and Pain, Paper Tigers, As High as You Can Go and the breathtaking closer, View From a Hill. This is the first time that Script of the Bridge has been made available as a ‘double album’. By dividing the tracks onto two 12” discs, the sound quality greatly increases with none of the compression that hampered the original Chameleons vinyl. Working from original studio tapes, the production pair painstakingly restored the album song by song, to create what the band believe is the truest reflection of how the recordings were meant to be.

2LP - The two 12” discs are in white poly bags inserted into spined LP sleeve, featuring exclusive new artwork by The Chameleons guitarist Reg Smithies.

2LP+ -&nbsp;Double 180 Gram Orange and Blue coloured vinyl LP pressing. To celebrate 40 years since it's original release, this reissue includes download code, printed inner sleeves and new artwork by guitarist Reg Smithies. Script of the Bridge was restored and re-mastered for vinyl at Abbey Road Studios, London. The restoration project was undertaken by production team Guy Massey and Steve Rooke, who received a Grammy Award for their work on the Beatles Box Set.&nbsp;

2CD - 25th Anniversary Double CD Edition. It comes in a special double digipak, with a 16 page booklet with lyrics and sleeve notes penned by guitarist Reg Smithies. The set features a digitally remastered version of the original album, three exclusive mixes and a live concert recorded in Bremen, Germany on their 1983 European tour. Twenty-seven tracks in total.
