Ninja Tune

Ninja Tune is an independent record label based in London, England. Established in 1990 by the duo known as Coldcut, Ninja Tune was created as a platform to release underground music free from the constraints of major labels. Inspired by a visit to Japan, Coldcut sought to pioneer the emerging hip-hop/electro scene of the eighties.

The label's success can be attributed to its constantly growing roster of diverse artists and their innovative approach to music and multimedia. With the combined expertise of Black and More, along with the graphic vision of Openmind and sound business practices, Ninja Tune has become known for producing quality music while providing unparalleled support to its artists.

Notable releases include DJ Food's 'Jazz Brakes' series, which showcased instrumental hip-hop cuts produced by Coldcut. Through their dedication to musical excellence and artist empowerment, Ninja Tune has solidified its position as a leading force in the independent music industry.

J Swinscoe, the founder of The Cinematic Orchestra, began his musical journey in 1990 with a group called Crabladder. After releasing a single on his own label, Power Tool, he gained recognition as a DJ on Heart FM. In 1999, their debut album Motion garnered critical acclaim and led to an invitation to perform at the Director's Guild Awards ceremony for Stanley Kubrick. They were later commissioned to create a live score for Man with a Movie Camera and released it as an album. Their discography also includes Ma Fleur and the soundtrack for The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos. In 2010, they established their independent label Motion Audio.

Long considered one of the best live bands in the UK, The Cinematic Orchestra have toured all over the world, headlined festivals and even played the music at a party for Stanley Kubrick. On November 2nd 2007, Jason Swinscoe brought an enhanced line-up of The Cinematic Orchestra, incorporating the 24 piece Heritage Orchestra to this amazing venue and played a show to a sold-out crowd of more than 4000 people. With over 40 musicians onstage at times, Swinscoe and his colleagues used the show as a unique opportunity to open out his chamber pieces into intense, beautiful and exquisitely realised epics which left the huge audience baying for more. Featuring vocal contributions from Heidi Vogel, Lou Rhodes (formerly of Lamb) and Grey Reverend, plus the return of original member PC on turntables, an intense, beautiful night is captured here in all it's glory.
