Rhino

The Doors were an American psychedelic rock/blues rock band formed in July, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA. The band was founded by Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. Following the death of Jim Morrison in 1971, the remaining members released two more albums but experienced limited success. In April 1973, the band ultimately disbanded. The Doors were later inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as performers in 1993.

Rhino Records, also known as Rhino, is a renowned music label that was established in 1973 by Richard Foos. Starting as a record store in Westwood California, Rhino quickly gained recognition with its first successful release "Go To Rhino Records" by Wild Man Fischer in 1975. The label's early logo featured "Rocky the Rhino" and focused on novelty, surf, local new wave bands, and reissues of out-of-print records from other labels.

Under the guidance of Bill Inglot for production, Ken Perry for mastering, and A&R team Gary Stewart and James Austin, Rhino expanded its catalog to include a wide range of reissues by the mid-1980s. The label underwent a logo redesign during this time period to simply "Rhino". In 1984, Rhino released its first CD and became known for manufacturing high-quality CDs made by Sanyo (1984-85) and various manufacturers from Japan or Switzerland thereafter.

In 1985, Rhino entered into a distribution deal with Capitol Records which lasted until 1992. This partnership allowed access to Capitol's back catalog and led to the release of reissues of old Capitol albums. Additionally, EMI and Rhino acquired the Roulette family of labels in 1989. As their deal with Capitol came to an end in 1992, Time-Warner offered an opportunity for growth. Half of the label was sold to Time-Warner

Very early on in their career, The Doors played at a small, hole-in-the-wall club called The Matrix, which was co-owned by Jefferson Airplane’s Marty Balin. The rule at the time was that bands from LA had to play The Matrix when they came to San Francisco as “tax” and homage to the bands that built the local scene. The Doors happily obliged, and co-owner Peter Abram recorded the band’s two shows – March 7 and March 10, 1967. The set features covers by The Doors such as “Gloria” and blues favourites like “Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) ” that would define their influence and sound as they worked out originals like “Break on Through (To the Other Side).” The complete set from both shows was released once before, but it was discovered after release that they were taken from third-generation tapes of the recordings. In the ensuing years, The Doors have located the first-generation recordings, and this is the first time the sets from those nights will be released in full. This is sure to generate discussion as highlights from the shows have been released over the years as RSD packages, and fans have been eager to have the full shows, from the 1st generation recordings, in their collections, and they will be monitoring this release closely.
