Description

Reissue of the classic record that first came out on Feel Good All Over in '94. With Holiday, the Magnetic Fields dispensed of the Charm of the Highway Strip heavy conceptualization and country influences, instead pulling each song towards a different flavour of pop music. Stephen Merritt, whose singing was surprisingly sturdy and authoritative on Charm, was now suppressing his voice beneath the sugary layers of electronic sounds and instrumentations, rather than accentuating it. As for the lyrical content, the psychopathic vagrancy of Charm had disappeared, now replaced by childish nostalgia and a depraved and immature bit of lust.
